THE ISPM 15 GUIDELINES
for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade

ISPM15.jpgThe Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has given guidelines on how solid wood packing material should be handled in the future. After implementation, all imported wood must arrive treated with a pest-free certification stamp.
The first countries who  implemented these regulations were the USA, EU countries, China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and Malaysia. At least 163 countries have adopted this standard by now.

Eltete TPM cartonboard packaging is insect-free and needs no treatment. It is accepted worldwide without any restrictions.

Due to internationalisation, packages travel from country to country. This brings many problems, not least of which is the long-horned beetle. It lives inside wood and may be spread in pallets or wooden frames used in packaging. The beetle spreads to living trees destroying their water circulation and so killing them. Clearly they are an unwelcome guest, which has lead to a total ban on wooden packaging materials in some countries.
